No to Brussels, Yes to sovereignty: Fico embraces Orbán model

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has made clear he intends to model Slovakia’s future on the example of Hungarian leader Viktor Orbán — a vision centered on sovereignty, traditional values, and resistance to Brussels’ overreach.

No to Brussels, Yes to sovereignty: Fico embraces Orbán model

Speaking at the 130th anniversary of the Mária Valéria Bridge, which links Slovakia and Hungary across the Danube, Fico declared that Slovakia will follow the same path as Orbán’s Hungary: defending family, protecting national identity, and resisting destructive EU policies.

Sovereignty Over Brussels

Fico praised Hungary’s insistence that national law must take precedence over EU dictates in areas touching identity, ethics, and culture. He vowed Slovakia would not bend to pressure from Brussels or international bodies on questions of family, gender, and tradition.

Slovakia has already taken historic steps, amending its constitution to recognize only two sexes and enshrine marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Fico underscored that these are not negotiable principles but fundamental truths that define the nation.

Standing Firm on Energy and Borders

The Slovak leader also aligned himself with Orbán’s resistance to EU energy mandates, warning that forced decoupling from Russian oil and gas would devastate the economies of Central Europe. Instead, he called for pragmatic policies that serve the interests of Slovaks and Hungarians, not Brussels elites.

On migration, Fico denounced Brussels for punishing those who defend their borders instead of applauding them. He pledged that Slovakia would follow Hungary’s lead in resisting illegal migration and safeguarding its cultural identity.

A Central European Alliance

By publicly embracing Orbán’s model, Fico is signaling a new era of cooperation between Bratislava and Budapest — one based not on submission to EU experiments, but on mutual defense of sovereignty, tradition, and the Christian heritage of Central Europe.

For millions of Europeans disillusioned with globalist elites, Fico’s words are a rallying cry: Slovakia will not be a province of Brussels, but a nation proud of its roots and ready to defend its future.
